What cables do i use to hook up my hd-compatable dvd player with my hd-tv? it only came w/standard AV cables?

i bought the component cables and they didnt seem to work. is there a specific kind i should buy or was this simply a random fluke of grabbing broken cables?

Sorry to tell you but you have to BUY the cables.

If your TV AND DVD have HDMI then use those. HDMI is a digital HD connection. It also carries the audio. Chances are if your TV and DVD player are relatively new then you will most likely be able to use the HDMI connection.

Otherwise the next best thing is component (red green and blue connectors, it is analog HD). this will require seperate audio cables however.

Standard AV cables will not support HD content and even

S video will only support up to 480i it will not support even 480p.

This could be 2 things:

- Make sure you match the color codes from the DVD player to cable, and from the cable to the RCA jacks on the TV.

- Your standard def DVD player only outputs 480i video. Some of the INPUTS on some TV's want the HD signals like 720 or 1080.  Check your TV manual to make sure the jacks on the TV you plugged into accept 480.
