  1. For dwarf hamsters, Critter Trail cages are pretty cool, but they are a HUGE pain to clean.  If you can put up with that, then sure, those are fun to see.

I would recommend a tall wire cage.  I had one for my dwarf hamster until she passed away and she loved it.  ^^  They're easy to clean too.  Just take out the tray, empty it, and wipe it down.

I had one similar to this one, but not exactly like it:

  3. I have seven winter white russian dwarf hamsters currently and I have them housed in one Habitrail Playground and two Habitrail Safaris with add on mazes, tunnels and bins for them to play around. I am a great fan of Habitrail wire cages (not the Habitrail Ovos)and have used them for years for my generations of syrian and dwarf hamsters with no problems whatsoever so far. You can check them out at www.habitrail.com.

The reasons I like it are the following -

1.It is a barred cage allowing ventilation

    2.It is easy to clean

3.It is made of good plastic and withstand gnawing and nibbling by the hamsters

4.It is very spacious for my dwarfies

5.It has a guard that prevents the bedding from falling out of the cage when the hamster is busy burrowing.

6.It is very colourful and looks good in your room

7.You can customise and add on tunnels and mazes as and when you prefer.

8.You can even connect two Habitrail cages for space if you have more than one hamster

Many people complain that their hamsters escape through the cage bars easily but that is because they dont buy cages that are designed for hamsters. A hamster specific wire cage like Habitrail or Crittertrail never has faced that problem.

  4. i would suggest a glass aquarium.  hamsters like to make nests and with wire cages the bedding can go all over the floor.  glass is good because it's easy to clean and there is less mess.  one caution with glass aquariums is that you want to keep it in a place that doesn't get too hot because there is less ventilation.

i have used wire cages before and in my opinion it was too messy and my hamsters would chew on the metal bars which isn't good for them.  also, hamsters may be able to squeeze out of the wire bars.  they can squeeze through really tight spaces.  i learned that the hard way when a few escaped when i first had hamsters years ago.

i would go with a ten gallon aquarium, carefresh bedding or something made with paper materials, and a mesh lid for the top.

here is some more info in the link.
