Okay I have a golden syrian hamster named Pumpkin. I got him about a year ago. I got some money from doing some work and wish to buy him a new cage. He is currently living in a critter-trail two with a lookout added on.

- This is the cage - http://www.amazon.com/CritterTrail-Super-Pet-Two/dp/B0002DJ4SY/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1219273766&sr=8-1

- and this is the add on - http://www.amazon.com/TopDawg-Pet-Supplies-Crittertrail-Look/dp/B000NGWEIM/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1219273827&sr=1-9

I have been doing a lot of research on here and the internet and cannot find any information that gives me a definite better cage.

So my choices are as follows :

1. Buy him a 10 gallon tank with a mesh/wire screen cover. (cost $23)

2. Get a 10 gallon tank and buy a tank topper for it (cost $37)

3. Buy a bunch of tubes and possibly another little cage to expand the cage he is currently in. (cost $20-$40)

4. Attempt to make him a bin cage. (cost $10 - $15)

5. Leave him alone and keep his current cage (cost $0)

6. Purchase the new habitrail OVO for him.

This is the tank topper I would get for choice 2 - http://www.amazon.com/First-Home-Gallon-Tank-Topper/dp/B0006IUL64/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1219274261&sr=1-2

And here is what I would buy if I got the habitrail OVO - http://www.amazon.com/Hagen-Habitrail-Ovo-Suite/dp/B000UODW6U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1219274518&sr=1-1

Please try to give me the pros and cons of each and tell me which you think is the best.

Please help me - I am going shopping tomorrow.

  1. choice number 3. he'll love it!

  2. I personally would get a bigger tank (maybe 20 or 30 g), and I would look for it on craigslist - you can probably get a used 30 gal tank for the same amount of $$ you will pay for a new 10 g. Look for a reptile or a rodent tank; I have found some great deals on craigslist. If this is not an option, I'd go for a 10 gal with a topper.

  3. I would make a bin cage they are ALOT bigger you can buy them in big sizes and its no that expensive all you do is buy a............

    water bottle

    wheel

    bedding

    hidy house

    food dish

    food

you can buy tubes but I use toilet paper rolls

also you have alot more space then normal cages so they can run around!

    Good luck!

  4. 1- This is possibly the best idea, although you might want to think of getting a 15- 20 gallon, since you're getting a new one, why not?

2- A tank topper is no better than a screen cover, so you might as well spend the extra cash on a bigger tank with mesh.

3- It's too expensive and it doesn't really count because he doesn't live in the add-ons. Plus, just more work to clean.

4- A bin cage is a nice idea- you can try that.

5- It might be a bit cramped for him.

6- The Habitrail Ovo is nice for a dwarf, but it's better to get the aquarium or make a bin cage.

  5. 6 I have a habitrail ovo and my hamster loves it. don't listen to what others are saying. they are just repeating what others have said about it. they probably didn't even hav a habitrail ovo before.

Check out my Hamster care site:

  6. i suggest choice 2 or 4 if your going for choice 4 go to my website: http://my-ham-dolce.piczo.com/?cr=2 then clik on home-made cage  then read on how to make the bin cage bu8t they are both really good choices but do nto do choice 6 (hamsters become anti-social when in habitrails since there is so many places to go and to hode that you would have to take4 apart the tubes to get to the hammie but also choice number 5 is good too since the cage he is in loks great and he has an add on but if you want bigger or better i would go with choice 2 or 4
