  1. 30 caliber. 7.62 is NATO designation

  2. wellthe first answer that comse to mind is a 7.62 cal....... but its really a 30 caliber round

  3. The 7.62 is the metric equivalent of the .30 caliber.

  4. It is NOT "7.62 caliber" despite what some of these other know-nothigs proclaim. "Caliber" refers to being measured in hundreths of an inch, so its an SAE measurement, not a metric measurement like "7.62 millimeters." 7.62 mm mic's out to approximately .30 caliber

EDIT: Sammyboy, I never said "caliber" was a unit of measure. re-read what I wrote. And judging from Gerry's reply, I'd say it looks like it's not I who needs to do some reasearch, but you! heh heh heh.

  5. 7.62x51 are ususlly .308

7.62x39 and 7.62x54 are usually .310 or .311 dependin on bullet maker.

  6. Hey samuelkowal906, you're not the know it all either. Caliber is not "the diameter of something of circular section" Check the OED. "caliber" is "the internal diameter of a gun or tube; the diameter of a bullet or shell, usually expressed in terms of hundreths per inch; strength or quality of character, ability, or importance." Bill is more correct than you are.

  7. It is equivalent to a .30 caliber bullet.  The round has similar ballistic to a .30-30 cal.

  8. 308

  9. 7.62mm

.308 inches for NATO rounds and .312 inches for Russian rounds.

  10. 7.62 cal is its cal although it is also sometimes called .30 cal using the imperial system if it was you was asking since this question of yours is not explanatory enough to give a specific answer on it.

  11. 7.62 mm designation is for roughly 30 caliber weapons. Groove diameters are generally around 7.82-7.92mm, or .308-.311", with bullets of about the same size as groove diameter.

  12. .30 cal

  13. That 7.62 will mike around .-308"... plus or minus a couple of thousands

In the US before metrics and NATO .7.62 was good ol ".30 cal"

  14. The bullet is 7.62 millimeters wide.

It is (or was) a standard caliber for many rifles/assault rifles and machine guns, however 5.56mm is more widely used now.  ...ammo is lighter, guns are lighter although not as much stopping power as 7.62

  15. Quick way to convert from mm to American calibration:  Multiple mm by 4:  7.62 x 4 = 30.48 which is less than 30.50 so it can be rounded off to .30 caliber.  To convert back to mm divide mm by 4.

  16. You will not get a 7.62mm NATO to load into an M-1.

You will not get a .30 caliber to load into an M-14.

They are similar, but certainly NOT the same.

  17. I know the AK round,  7.62x39mm is equivalent to a .308 caliber round.

  18. 7.62mm x 39 or 51 NATO Which we commonly know from SKS's, AK's, M14's, M21's G3's etc.. is a .30 Cal bullet. Same as a 30-06 Springfield, .308 Winchester, 30-30 etc..

  19. believe it or not it's a 7.62

  20. bullit is 30 cal...cartrage is 308...
