I don't do alot of hunting (i'm more of a clay shooter), however i'm looking to get into it. I know that the .22 calibre is the universal 'rabbit shooting' calibre, however i don't know whether it is strong enough for fox. So i am thinking about possibly a .22WMR or .17HMR. I saw a video that showed a .22LR vs. a .17HMR and the HMR was obviously alot more powerful, however i have not seen or heard how the .17HMR calibre compares with the .22WMR calibre. Can anyone give some suggestions on which would be best and even a recommendation of what brand to get if i am trying to reduce the cost to about $250? thanks. I live in Australia by the way, if that helps.

  1. rabbits at a distance use a 17 hmr , would be ok but not to far prob 80 to 100 yards for a head shot, although i saw a video of a bloke head shootin em with a 22-250 at long distance, foxes would drop with a 17 hmr too but i prefer to use a 223 if u dont want the pelts just more power and longer range.
