  1. MiniDV tape continues to provide the best available video quality because DV (and HDV) stored to miniDV tape applies the least amount of compression to the digital video data stream.

    Internal hard drive and flash camcorders are next in the video quality parade (whether MPEG2 standard definition or AVCHD high definition, these methods compress more than DV or HDV).

    Last - WAY last - well behind HDD and flash are DVD based camcorders. They compress the most. Stay far away from these camcorders.

    video compression = discarded data = reduced video quality.

    DVD, if don't need to edit the footage.
