Given that Australia as a nation is barely two hundred years old and that various forms of soccer have been around since people hacked off each others' heads and kicked them about, I think it's safe to say Australian Rules came later. The game was supposedly  invented to keep cricketers fit in winter.

well, soccer actually... both world wide and in australia... but that doesnt mean anything... i mean, potatoes came before chocolate, but chocolate is by far the better food...
