What came first, the seed or the tree?

I believe is Tree, since tree are evolved from previous tree-like ancestor. Seed is a evolved way of reproduction for angiosperms and gymnosperms. Gametophytes is produced inside the seed follow by fertilization and the next generation of sporophytes is kept inside the seed. By doing so, it will increase the change of getting survived once they have been release into the nature.

Ferns and bryophytes which produce the new individual by using spores and form the gametophytes outside.

Perhaps is a tree-like plant which evolve and produce the seed-like stuff (with gametophytes inside) due to genetic modification, successfully get survived and the nature favour them?

Well, apply the concept of "survivor of the fittest...

Actual Trees  first appeared in the fossil record starting at about the permian period, towards the end of the paleozoic era. Right before dinosaur days.

Seed-bearing plants, however, had existed from the early carboniferous period-- the swamps and forests of the coal age. There were seed-bearing ferns back then. A good fifty million years or so previous to the existence of anything you or I would recognize as a tree. But there were some really big club mosses back then.

anyway it is most hard to tell because there are lots of perspectives you can lookn at it from.

Say with the universse the seed came first which was the white dot. and then that grew to be our earth and our planets.

I would say the seed because all things must start from small small things then eventually grow into something great
