What came first slavery or racism??

Personally I think the question is irrelevant, because either way somehow this terrible system was devolved......but what do you think?

Slavery has been around alot longer than racism. Way back in the day, the slaves were the same race as the Masters usually.

America was discovered in late 15c by Italians Vespucci and Columbus.  The latter objected to both Slavery & Racism against the Natives and for his pains was sent home in irons. As most people know The Spanish who invaded later instigated both Racist attacks on the Natives and made Slaves of those not killed. Slavery was well enshrined in the Rest of the World prior to this and despite Wilberforce it still exists to the present.  In some countries it's either slavery or death.

racism is a form of prejudice. prejudices would come before either. society would make evaluations and distinctions of some kind even if we were the same race, such as social class (i.e. white trash).

Neither. Someone figured out a way to enslave a person because of a quality (which is much more than racism), and decided to take advantage of them. Sounds like entitlement or hustling to me...

Racism!  It has been around every since there were two races!  One person doesn't like/fear the other cause they don't truly know or understand them.

Both came at the same time. You could not have slavery with out racism. You could not racism with out slavery.  You would not make a slave out of some one you liked. Would you?

i think slavery came first.  that was my first answer but now i cant say that because to enslave black people there has to be the idea of racism.  chicken or the egg.  impossible, not really the chicken came first. and to answer your question racism came first because the idea has to come first.  and racism is the idea.  yeah thats it. my answer is racism came first.
