  1. the c-47 is the military version of the douglas dc-3 passenger plane that was used during WWII and Korea.


  2. They are the same aircraft ; The DC-3 was made in 1934 by the Douglas Co.; There were many modifications through the years, and in 1940 it was designated the C-47. ( MANY of them still flying today ) !.

  3. I believe the C-47 was the military version made during WWII. After the war, there was a demand for passenger airplanes, and the C-47 was transformed into the DC-3.

DC-3.  It first flew in December, 1935 and revolutionized Air Travel.  It could make it across the US, East Bound in 25 hours in three hops.  The military versions, C-47, C-53, R4D and Dakota came about after the US got into the WW2.  A Gunship version fitted with Mini-guns was used in Viet Nam AC-47.
