  1. The pallet came first to keep goods off the wet floors

Also for lifting ropes to be passed under a load,,

  2. forklift.

you dont need a pallet to pick things up with the fork (timber will do)

  3. the pallet.

pallets were liften on pallet jacks since the late 1800s yet forklifts were only invented in the 1920s.

  4. Pallet first.......lifted with hoists and cranes...pushed around with tractors and skidders.

Thus to simplify, the "Pallet Truck" was designed...commonly called a Forklift.

  5. Great question!!!

The forklift had to come first. Why design a pallet that is only compattible with a forklift if there is none? I very nearly looked up cheps pallets and forklifts to find out some dates but it's almost midnight. Way past excessive work time.

  6. Pallet had to come first, otherwise what's the point for a forking lift.

  7. pallet first

  8. The first time pallets were used in factories, they had hand trucks that could move and lift them.  Motorised forklifts weren't used until 10 years later.

  9. the pallet did......they used to run straps under them and pick them up by hand. the forklift just made lifting heavier junk easier.

  10. The forklift came first it was invented to shift baled goods like cotton etc on the docks. There used to be three prople to each forklift and as baggage was moved it was supported by individual dividers placed by the two dockers. Bales where hauled onto the blades or forks by grappling hook.

Then one of the dockers nailed together a rough frame which supported the bale and allowed the forks to slip in and out of the stack, this was made from damaged crates and abandoned timer in the dock yard. One of the foremen saw that the ships under his command were being unloaded quicker and more efficiently under this dockersaide and went to the board with the idea, one of the shipwrights took the basic principle and created the basic lattice design now employed by GKN and universaly elsewhere.

Once the basic design was confirmed ( bale of cotton or wool) forklifts were altered to accomodate and improve efficiency, dockers then became redundant and the first to be layed off, this began the decline of the english dockyard.

Yup another English invention which became absorbed into the american system and claimed as their own.

    Just like:-

    Mass production

English invention to produce standardised pully blocks for the english Navy,  was taken on by COLT to produce rifle and pistol stocks, used by henry Ford ( the so called proclaimed father of mass production) to make cars.

RADAR English invention using reflected radio waves to detect movement, Absorbed by MARCONI ( america) who claim invention of RADAR

    JET ENGINE

Frank Whittle invented a radial flow gas turbine engine for use as an industrial power plant then converted it to use as a jet engine, Sent to america wwhere PRATT AND WHITNEY claim they invented it.

FORK Truck Invented by CLARK UK.

Then YALE of america Claim inventing it.

TV invented by J Logi BAIRD Scottish

American ( texas farmer) claims invention Though he does get the patent for it.
