A projectile moving at 480 feet per second can kill.  Depends on the projectile and where it strikes.  For comparison, he .45 acp is moving at 700 to 875 fps (the original load).  Some .38 Special wadcutter move at between 600 & 700 fps (slower out of the 2" barrel .38s).

if its a pellet gun then alot, most people think you need alot of fps in a gun to kill squirels and rabbits, My pellet gun shoots 500 fps and this year i have killed 3 rabbits, 5 squirels, more robbins then you can count, 3 doves, 2 crows.

What is moving 480 fps? a pellet? probably kill what the others are saying here. Talking about an arrow from a compound bow? Then i want to shoot what you are because the top end fps in archery is i believe around 300 fps...and you can kill plenty with an arrow.

If you are talking about a BB gun, birds, lizards, frogs, bumblebees, an butterflys would be in danger.

If you are asking about from an actual firearm, it will kill a man, with luck, bad for him and good for you.  The .41 Short Rimfire (the cartridge used by the famous old Remington Double Derringer) had a velocity of around .480 fps.

My old friend Bryant Grace told of an incident he witnessed as a kid back in the 1930's.  A couple of the farm laborers on the farm his Dad managed had been bickering and arguing all week and almost came to blows several times.  On Saturday morning, a bunch of the laborers were sitting around a fire down in the laborers quaters, probably passing a jug around to keep warm and entertained.  The arguement flaired again, and one drew and old Remington Derringer and threatened to shoot the other.  Taking the man at his word, the threatened man took to his heels.  The man with the derringer fired a shot and the running man fell face first, plowing a pretty good furrow with his nose.  The shooter fled never to be seen again in that ares.

Another worker ran for Mr. Grace.  Bryant tagged along behind his Dad.  When Mr. Grace arrived at the scene of the shooting, he examined the body.  The man seemed to be wearing every stitch of clothing he owned.  Mr. Grace started peeling layers of clothing off until he got down to the man's long johns, where he found the bullet.  Laughing, he turned the man over and slapped his face until he work up, yelling, "Wake up you damned fool, you ain't dead."  Apparently when he felt the bullet hit his back, he fainted dead away.

That is why I said it would be a matter of luck to kill a man with one shot from a .41 Rimfire.
