What can Animal Control do?

My family and I have 6 dogs total.. 3 in the small back yard (Chihuahua Sasha, Yorkie Sophia, an a American Eskimo Iggy) those are my step moms. I have 2 in the little fenced in front yard and my brother has 1 in the front as well they are all doxies (Oscar, Chevy and Emmy) I just got a call from my step mom that Animal Control came by said someone complained about the dogs in the front yard barking all night... I find that very odd because when I am home my dogs are inside at night and when I am not home they sleep in there igloo and I am rarely ever gone. my dogs never bark at night unless someone is teasing them or is outside walking by my house. On the other hand my step moms dogs are never inside at night and Iggy the American Eskimo barks all through the night. She told me that Animal Control cant do anything about it now but if they get another complaint they'll can do something. I have had my dogs for over 2 years and when they were outside no one ever complaint. My step mom got Iggy in late September and she hasn't got a compliant about any dogs till now...

So my question is what could Animal Control do?

B.T.W..... None of the dogs are licenesed.. I just cant afford my 2 dogs right now. None of our neighbors dogs are licenesed either.

  1. They can take your dogs.

A lot of cities have ordinances about noise, and number of dogs allowed.

    I would look into it.

  2. First, it can be hard to tell which dogs are barking from a distance. Leaving dogs outside all night is highly irresponsible. Letting them bark all night is reprehensible.

Depending on the laws in your town, you could face stiff fines and if the fines are not paid, the dogs could be confiscated. If one neighbor complains, they will likely tell the others. If a dog at your house is being left outside all night to bark, you can bet another neighbor will soon be complaining as well.

If your dogs are barking at night, it doesn't matter if your neighbors dogs have licenses or not. You are going to be the ones who are fined.

Dogs belong inside at hight. With their people. PERIOD!!!

  3. it would mainly depend on where you live in my area animal contol has to witness the dogs barking, chances are nothing will happen if you have a neighborhood full of dogs animal control nor you neighbor are gonna have what it takes to prove that was your dog barking, and in a court of law throughout the US. if that is were you live you are innocent until proven guilty just as long as you don't go over you animal limit animal control has to have proof it wasn't someone else's dog any judge would dismiss that in a court of law. However if you are over the animal limit they will take however many dogs over you are they will take them and fine you. as long as you are allowed to have 6 you are in the clear, the most that could happen is a disturbing the piece ticket and you have to be caught in the act, since this is dealing with law if you want to take it to the law and ethics category there could be somebody that make give you a better answer.

  4. It depends on where you live.  Where I live, this has been the routine.

They come out (usually police) and sit in a car outside of your house at some random time of night and listen.  They may do this a few times.  If your dogs bark, then you get a ticket for barking dogs.  If you fail to produce a license, then you get fined for not having a license on your dog and a timetable where if you do not get a license then you will be fined again and your dog will eventually be taken.

The problem with barking dogs is that usually owners don't know their dogs bark when they're gone.  In any case, that's the method where I live.  First time you get a warning (that phone call), second time, you get something worse, they don't usually do something until the third time.  But when they do if you don't have license and shot info... then it's either pay a fine, get them done, or relinquish the dogs.

  5. You can probably be fined for disturbing the peace if the dogs are really barking at nite.

You can be fined for the licence as well.

It costs like $10-15 per dog to licence them.. how can you "not" afford that?

  6. they won't fine you if they have the 3 main needs

    *FOOD

    *WATER

    *SHELTER

you will be fine! if you have that and they are well groomed and have a good weight

BUT YOU MAY BE FINED FOR THEM DISTURBING PEACE

    most cities have a limit

REGISTER THEM OR YOU MAY GET FINED

i no it may be a hard to make but. bring the dogs you can't afford to your local humane society they will get them in to good loving homes i PROMISE.

  7. Not licensed....they can give you a ticket for each dog.

Keep getting complaints....they CAN force you to get rid of the dogs if you cannot control them AND you will receive a ticket for disturbing the peace.

  8. A/C can take your dogs away from you, kill them or sell them to a rescue. Rescue's sell them after they have been taken away from people. A/C can fine you if your town/city/township has a law for fines, for non-licensed dogs.

  9. A neighbor complained about my dogs once and we didn't have them licensed either. Animal Control gave us a ticket and we had to pay a fine and get their license. Is there a limit to the amount of dogs you can have? The city I live in only allows you to have three dogs. If you have more than the limit you have to get some different type of kennel license.

  10. Well, Animal Control will probably take the dogs if they come by at night & seem them outside or even see that there in unsuitable living conditions. Dogs aren't meant to be outside 24-7, it's cruel & against the law in most states. And the worst part about it all is that animal control will most likely euthanize them if they can't adopt them out within a week. Good luck.

  11. Question, you said they were never out at night however you also made the statement "my dogs never bark at night unless someone is teasing them or is outside walking by my house."  There are many laws that govern the number of dogs a single home may have if inside the city limits.  That is the first thing you need to check.  Next, to make sure animal control does not take or fine you, keep your pets inside.  They can easily be crated - I have 7 dogs, 2 are fosters and 4 are crated each time we leave the house.  It's actually a safe rescue for the dog, most feel more secure if they are alone in a house to be in a crate.

I'm not sure to what you are referring when you say "licensed"  - do you mean they haven't had their shots?  That's even more of a reason to keep them inside.  A number of diseases are air borne, distemper, parvo, just to name a few.  I realize this can be expensive if you own more than one animal but, it is important they be cared for properly.
