What can HPV do to you? How do you get it? What do you think when you hear of HPV and who has it?

I was just told that I got a positive result for HPV and I have had some abnormal pap smears. They say that 1 in 3 women have been diagnosed with positive HPV and people can be carriers and not even know it. HPV has the ability to turn into cervical cancer and is found in abnormal pap smears. Has this happened to you? Or, what is your view when you think of HPV? Do you think of it as a gross STD or what comes to mind? Can you get it without having s*x at all? What happens to the men & women that come in contact with it or are diagnosed with HPV? All information on this would be greatly appreciated.

Well..I have HPV. High Risk HPV.  Which means I have to go every 3 months for the next 5 years to get a pap done. To keep an eye out and make sure that i don't develop cancer since I do have precancerous cells. I had never done a pap before and i had been sexually active for some time but i have a pretty good idea who gave it to me....but any way, when i got the lab results the doctor told me about a procedure called LEEP. 2 weeks later I had the procedure called LEEP, its a loop wire that scrapes off the bad cells in order for the good cells to take over. This helps to prevent cervical cancer and also can help actually getting rid of the virus. Yes, you can get rid of the VIRUS. But there is no cure. You have to eat healthy, exercise, and take vitamins. By keeping your self healthy your immune system can fight this virus away. It can take from 6 months to 2 years or maybe never go away. When STD comes in my head....i do think "gross"...this is one reason why i was so upset at my self. Being so young and i actually consider my self a good person i got this virus...for having intercourse with a bf that i thought cared about me. I don't know if he knows he has it...i haven't seen him in 2 years. But with the help of my friends and bf i learn to accept it and know that everything was going to be okay. People make mistakes. I am really happy that my bf doesn't hate me for infecting his with this STD..he is now a carrier....Hope this help.  All you need to do is take care of your self and have FAITH. I still cant believe im infected. And i live a normal life...i just have to visit the doctor more times than other people....you will be fine. Just follow the doctors instructions. hpv is a sexual transmitted diease, its from having s*x, i never heared of someone having hpv without having s*x. i dont see hpv gross if a person has it, it just a lesson learned. sometimes its hard for a person who has hpv but medcine can help. i heared that hpv clears on its own but im not to sure about it. if you dont treat hpv it can lead to cervical cancer. best of luck to you
