I have a above ground liner pool that is 18ft 48ft and holds 6423 galllons. My ph level is 8.2 and I need to lower it but I dont want to spend a bunch of $$ on chemicals I will never use again. This is the 3rd year I had the pool set up and I never had to mess with the PH before. It has always been fine when I tested it. We live in South florida and I just filled the pool up with water softner water just like I always do. Please help.

  1. First make sure your test kit reagents have not gone out-of-date.  That could give you the false high pH reading.

Pool pH is usually lowered using muriatic acid.  You should do an acid demand test before hand to calculate how much to add, having a low pH is just as bad as having it too high.  An alternative would be to add a very small amount of acid, wait an hour or two with the circulation pump running, then retest.  However, doing the demand test is the best and most efficient way of doing this.
