Question:

What can I cast in a liquid latex mold?

I covered a large clay sculpture with liquid latex to create a mold. Originally my intent was to use it to cast resin, but after some experimenting that no longer seems like a viable option.

I'm wondering what else I can cast in a latex mold. I'm hoping I can cast a lighter material.

My main question right now is - Can I cast flexible self-skinning Urethane Foam in a latex mold - or will the foam stick to the latex mold?

Thanks

  1. Latex molds will stick to almost anything, including themselves.  The separator you use will depend on the other material. I have used baby powder, soap, spray olive oil, and vaseline.   I hope you have a plaster backing for the latex, which is quite weak for holding a shape. I would suggest asking the Mold Builder people for compatibility and separator suggestions.
