She has had herpes, got from a cat we adopted from a shelter. It gooped up her eyes but also gave her mouth sores. Those were treated, etc...

But today both of her eyes are goopy, out of nowhere. Any ideas as to why, or what I should do?? Thanks in advance.

  1. Get on the phone and CALL YOUR VET!  It's possible that some of the herpes virus is still affecting her.  She needs medical drops or salve for her eyes.

Meantime, take a cotton ball, wet it with WARM (not hot) water, and GENTLY wipe the goop off.....from nose-side to ear-side.  Be careful to NOT leave any of the goop IN her eyes.

You can ask your vet if there's anything better to do for her, WHEN you call him!

    Hope this helps.....Good luck.

  2. Get some Terramycin Ophthalmic Ointment you can purchase it at places that sell vet supplies here is one place that has it: http://www.tractorsupply.com/webapp/wcs/...

I know it's listed as for dogs but it's totally safe for cats to.

  3. There is medication and you can take a wet warm towel and wipe the lids gently. Put a little baby oil on the towel that helps. Wash hands not to spread the infection.

  4. It can be treated with medication, so I would suggest calling your vet first thing in the morning and making an appointment.  Meanwhile, use a warm - damp papertowel (one per eye) and GENTLY wipe the corners and around the eye - NOT THE EYE ITSELF.  You could injure the eye further, so just stick to the edges.  Please do not put anything in or around the eye except water.  Make sure you wash your hands thoroughly with antibacterial soap and very warm water when you are done (and don't touch ANYTHING until you do)
