we all get free drinks, so I was trying to get a drink when I was leaving and he said get a small cup, like it matters. Well, the General Manager does not act like this at all. What is the big deal? Why does he act petty?

  1. You at work to work, not talk on cell phone.  Unless you clock out for break you should not use cell phone. If you do clock out you could use it unless they have other policy.  Now as to the free drink, yes, you should take a small cup as free drinks are generally only during shift not when you leave also. Sounds like the manager is just doing his job and you are having a hard time following the rules probably because some other managers slack.  He is only doing his job. If you are not happy find another job

  2. yeah...what she said...

  3. Sounds like he is trying to show his authority,(and not in a good way either).  Regarding the cell phone; if you take your breaks outside you have every right to talk on your cell phone, don't let him tell you otherwise, its your break.  Just don't use it inside your place of employment.  As for the cup issue, bring your own cup, small of course that way you are not using cups that were made for paying customers!  That'll show him!

  4. It's more than likely that the new guy was brought in because of the current GM's behavior. He's trying to keep costs down to get his pay up. You should do him one better and bring in your own cup to reuse.

As far as using your phone, maybe it's the location you are using it. If you leave the company grounds on your break, then he can't dictate you using your phone or not. I can understand him being upset of you're using it in the restaurant in front of guests. I (and many others with manners) personally find people using cell phones in restaurants quite rude.

I hope you can see things from his point of view. You're not exactly a complete angel.

  5. He sounds like a jerk just take it in stride and use the suggestions the others gave and you shouldn't have any problems.
