What can I do about a phone company who wont take me out of collections?

i reached the end of my contract with the phone company in august 2007. at that time the service was disconnected because i already had another phone, i called to make the last payment over the phone and let them know i no longer wanted their services, but it seems like the girl who took my payment completely ignored me and charged the ending balance plus 25 dollars re-connection fee (after i told her, "nO! i dont want the phone re-connected so why would u charge me the 25 bucks?" but... she did anyway, and i thought the phone was now disconnected but it wasnt... now im in collections because they billed me until march. ive been calling this company constantly telling them i never requested their service but they keep saying i used the service so i have to pay for it... but i didnt even have the phone during those months. this may sound confusing but hope someone can help...thankyou in advance
