At about 9pm every night, for about an hour, a swarm of bees appear in the cherry tree and then fly up to somewhere about the chimeny. I am not sure exactly what they are. They are very quick and I spend most of the time jumping out the way. We are having a big garden party soon and I dont want to have to get everyone inside for an hour. I have put out a natural trap (fruit juice and meat) but it hasn't caught any. What can I do?

  1. Contact a local beekeeper.  He can identify them.  If they are honey bees and he can get to the nest he will be glad to take them away.  If they are yellow jackets or wasps an exterminating company can eliminate them for you.

  2. I doubt these are bees. Honey bees go to their nest at night. They do not fly in the dark. Bees do not eat meat, they are vegetarians, gather pollen and nectar.

You may have a nest of yellow jackets or bald face wasps or paper wasps.

Take a good look in that tree and if you see a football shape nest it is bald face wasp, color is black and white. They can be very aggressive. If you can find a dead one at the base of the tree take it to a garden shop where they have an Ortho book on bugs for identification. I wish you had a picture of the insect it could be an eassier  identification
