Question:

What can I do about domestic violence if it is not myself?

It's my mother. Her boyfriend is a severe alcoholic (I'm grown and out of the house, I live a couple of hours from her) and I never liked him from the beginning. I recently found out he's been hitting her...only because I saw the bruises. I am afraid for her life. He has threatened to tell everyone a bunch of lies about her to the police if she calls the police on him he says. I called the police myself in her town and they said she has to be the one to press charges. She has some sort of mental problem (undiagnosed) anyway. She has always been in outer space, and this has made her even worse. I've tried to talk to her about calling the police, changing locks, and a restraining order. She won't do it and all she says is "I hope he leaves." He's not going to and I just feel beside myself because I don't know what to do. Can anyone suggest anything I haven't thought of? Please help.

  1. change ur house for a while

  2. i suggest you contact a domestic violence centre somewhere in your area and explain the situation - those people are professionals and will have more insightful advice with regard to the legal side of things. definitely mention that you think she has an undiagnosed mental problem - that affects her responsibility for herself and means that she might not have to be the one to press charges.

i really hope you and your mum sort this out; good luck.
