Question:

What can I do about messy freying edges on a patchwork skirt?

Hello all,

I recently made a tiered patchwork circle skirt which I love, it's not my size though and I intend to sell it. However I don't have an overlocker and the inside of the skirt is all excess thread and raw freying edges. I considered putting an inside layer on to cover it, but the gathered nature of the skirt would make this pretty much impossible. If anybody has any idea what I can do please let me know, if my best option is finding an overlocker i'll do so.

  1. Yes, your best bet is using an overlock stitch, but there are a couple other alternatives.  You could use pinking shears on the raw edges, this will keep them from fraying or you could simply zig-zag the raw edges, using a pretty close stitch.  These are the only things I can think of since the skirt is already sewn together.

    Hope this helps!  Good Luck!!
