What can I do about my acne?

ok, so school starts on Monday.

I have 5 pimples, and a bunch that are under my skin. I want to get rid of them by Sunday night.

Can you recommend any home remedies, facial cleansers, or spot treatments that really work, and I can get them at like Walgreens or Target?

I know that everyone's skin is different, blah blah blah.

  1. for the ones above the skin you can use toothpaste to dab on and dry them out

the ones under the skin use a face scrub mine is some apricot scrub and I love it!

use astringent after washing your face to close the pores fast.

  2. Iam a Registered Nurse and I specialize in skin care and teen acne.

In my experience of 12 years alot of  commercial store bought products DO NOT WORK!

Both products you mentioned OVER DRY YOUR FACE as do most store bought products. I have been taking care of teen acne for 12 years and I dont recommend them at all!!!

PLEASE READ THIS WITH YOUR MOM, I have a great solution for you!

Your question is very broad and you need to get professional advice. I will explain why it's a broad question!

Your age plays a role! How old are you? Do you always have breakouts?

However, acne can result from several factors such an increase in hormone levels. In males testosterone or androgens. In females, androgens respectively. The increase in androgen levels can stimulate the oil glands to become enlarged and thus more oil production is produced. An increased oil production can clog the pores with oil or sebum ( white thick substance) which cause the cell walls of the pores in the skin to breakdown. This process allows bacteria to form and thus breakouts develop.

Genetics may also be a cause. It is a myth that greasy food or chocolate causes breakouts.

However, using make-up sponges that are not changed or washed often can contaminate the pores with bacteria which may develop into acneic breakouts.

If you are a teenager ( which I assume that you are) your hormones play a definite role in your breakouts.

If you have severe breakouts than you might need medication. There are many factors.

The most important thing is that you need products that are AGE APPROPRIATE! Every age group has different products appropriate for them. If you are young than you need milder products as to not dry out your beautiful young skin.

The problem with commercial skin products is that they are manufactured for MASSES OF PEOPLE and are not specifically made for different peoples' needs.

Your skin type is different than mine and your age differs from mine so how is it logical that we both use the same skin product for breakouts. We need different strengths of cleansers and toners. Do you kind of understand what I am getting at?

Here is my STRONG SUGGESTION for you. I refer all my students and patients to this website:

    www.aboutyourskincare.com

You need to consult with professionals and on this website YOU CAN ASK QUESTIONS FOR FREE AND A SKIN EXPERT/PHYSICIAN WILL ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS. It would be a shame if you dont take advantage of this free service.

Lastly, they have incredible products for breakouts and they make them specifically for every kind of skin type. That means that if your breakouts are more severe than mine, than while we both will buy the same product yours will have stronger ingredients than mine will.

They have a mild glycolic acid cleanser that's great for your type of skin and also a DRYING LOTION ( I have 3 bottles) that you put directly on your breakouts and the next day it's gone. It's truely magic in a bottle.

A basic guideline for properly taking care of your skin is this ( now if you're a young girl you will need fewer products than this):

    Night time:

    1. Exfoliate the skin

    2. Mild Glycolic Acid Cleanser

    3. Mild Glycolic Acid Toner ( cleans off the excess debris and balances the PH level of the skin).

    4. Drying Lotion used only on breakouts

    5. Moisturizer

    Morning:

    1. Mild Glycolic Acid Cleanser

    2. Moisturizing cream

The above is a standard you may need to only use one or two products. Visit: www.aboutyourskincare.com

As I suggested and click on the ASK FOR FREE section send them an email and you will get free expert skin care advice.

    Good Luck to you,

  3. Well i used to us ARBONNE ADVANTAGE but my body just sort of created a immunity for itt. so what i use now are three things from one line of acne killers and one thing from another one.

    1. OXY FACIAL SCRUB MAXIMUM... this is a great acne wash for reducing redness in acne and decreasing the size of them noticably

    2. OXY FACIAL PADS CLEAR MAXIMUM.. what these do are after you wash your face with the scrub this soothes your face and brings a cooling sensation.. pluss these are great for oily faces becuse they wipe away the oil.. and they create a sort of shield so that no bacteria can get inside of your pores.

    3. OXY VANISHING LOTION MAXIMUM.. this is one of my favorite things. what this does is it cleans your pores out so that more that 99.99% of the bacteria is out of them.. then you cann just put it one your pimples as sort of a mask for about ten minutes then wash it off and the size, color and roundness of your pimples should be more than halfway gone

    4. CLEAN AND CLEAR PERSAGEL..thi is by far my favorite thing.. this totally erases all of your pimples. you just put it on before you go to sleep kind of as a mask and the next morning when u wake up our acne should be totally gone. also if you are conserned that your coverup is going to clog your pores then just right before you apply your coverup use this as alotion and rub it all over yourface thenn just apply your coverup as iff nothijng is there. it will help fit acne. plus since it is pretty thicke it will coverup your pimples noticably

all of the following things that i just listed up there i bought at my local grocery store for under 5$ each..

i hope that this will workk.. haha i know it will../ good luck!!

  4. The acne under the skin I would say is either caused by hormones or bacteria build up. Don't worry, it isn't as bad as it sounds (the bacteria part). There can be several different ways you would have to attempt on your own to take care of it before you find something that works. The major problem that does tend to develop over the course of treatment is the drying of the skin which actually makes the whole experience worse. I've learned through my experience that makeup is best left unused during treatment at least until you find something that works. Many over the counter treatments work for different types of skin and different kinds of acne and can get very costly. It sounds to me (without being able to look at it) that you might possibly be developing either rosesea or cystic acne. If you have insurance, I would recommend seeing a dermatologist and finding out if you need a prescription and if you don't, they can recommend the best over the counter treatment. Some forms of acne like you are describing actually require pills to cure. Personally, I have found through many different tests of various products that the brand Acne Free (same thing as Proactiv but cheaper) worked for me, but you MUST follow the directions. Over time though, maybe about a month of the treatment, I was able to use it less often and only maybe once a week because it can cause overdrying of the skin as well if you use it too much. Try not to combine different treatments as it will cause irritation. Through the many home remedies I have tried, I suggest not putting anything on your face that is intended for another part of the body. Really though, it would help to have an expert actually look at your skin to determine what it is. Try doing an image search on Yahoo or Google. You may be able to identify yourself what it is there. I hope this helps.
