My neighbors are tearing down a house they bought and are burning all of it as they tear it down, this is going on everyday... We can not even enjoy a peaceful day outside because my family gets sick from the smoke... and my boyfriend has asthma so the smoke really bothers him... I have a headache at the moment from it and a sore throat.. They are burning the shingles too.. Is there anything we can do to put a stop to this... especially when it happens everyday?

  1. If there are no laws against open burning thrreheir is probably not a whole lot you can do. However in our state you can not burn shingles with out a permit. You could maybe ask them to burn when the wind is in the opposite direction of the house. When I do any open burning I try to be sure the smoke is not going across the road or towards my neighbors house

  2. This answer is from your neighbor. We are not burning our house. Yes we have burned a few pieces of wood but other than that all remains have been hauled of  to the dump. Please note our neighbor who asked this question on Yahoo answers our eccentric and are the reason we had to tear down our house and move. Here in Tennessee it is hard living with our hillbilly neighbors.

  3. CALL IN THE FIRE DEPT. AND HEALTH SERVICES, I BELIEVE THATS ILLEGAL.

  4. when they go out burned the whole house so after they came back they will no tearing and burning house

  5. Unless it is the size of Gore's, it probably won't take much longer. You could show him that you are the type of neighbor that he should be, and volunteer to take the rest of it to the dump for him for free. Ya, right. Of course you will.

  6. Support them, burn your house too.

  7. Usually this is illegal because of the environmental factors that could be involved. Call the NON emergency # for police and the fire department, let them know what is going on and how your family is getting sick from the smoke. Also ask if they took out a burning permit..

If the house is old you could be breathing in LEAD paint from the shingles or walls, Roofing shingles are also unhealthy to be breathing in....They may be doing this because they know that their house has lead paint....

  8. Contact the town and find out what the regulations are regarding burning. Many communities don't allow it.  The shingles sound like they would be causing the most problem. They are made of asphalt and probably release a thick black smoke. Maybe you could approach them and explain your discomfort. Maybe they could change their burning schedule when the wind direction is blowing away from you.

  9. Pick up a stick of dynamite--put it under the rubbish when they're not around, the rest will look after itself.
