Question:

What can I do about neighbor who keyed my car?

I live in an area where parking is hard to come by. I some times park in front of a neighbors and if I were to park partially in the red (I won't!) 2 cars could fit there but they won't unless some one is willing to park partially in the red zone.

Due to my refusal to park partially in the red, my car got keyed.

What can I do about this?

  1. Figure out who it is and shoot their air condition window unit first chance you get!

  2. the the police to take his keys and test for paint trace

if the police won't help you then just go buy a roman candle

    rip out the fuse

stick the fuse in their gas tank

light it and run the h**l away

  3. Unless you have proof, all you can do is report it to the police. You have to catch them doing it.

  4. Fill out a police report, and try to get proof of it. If you get proof, you can take them to small claims court and sue them.

  5. Nothing you can do to prove it was them, unfortunately.

The only thing I could suggest would be to set up a trap, see if they do something again, while you have a camcorder running from your house.  It would of course mean you would have to 1) own a camcorder and 2) be able to set it up so it covers where your car is parked.

Most likely they would do it at night, hopefully there would be some overhead lighting, or at the very least you might be able to get an angle in so  you see the house they are coming from.

    It's a longshot.

  6. If you have proof like video or  witnesses report it to the police.  If you have no proof then you're screwed.  "I think it was him" or "I know it's him",  will not fly in court.

  7. I shall attempt to help.

First make a police report, even if they can't do anything, at least you have it  documented and have a report number to give to your insurance.

Next, do a little investigation yourself. Unfortunately, vehicle vandalism is going to the bottom of the police priority list. It sucks, but the police are very tied with a massive amount of calls (just reality). Find out if there have been other similar vandalisms in the area. The Crime Analysis section of the police department can give you that info.

Next, canvass the area. Look for video cameras on traffic lights, ATM's and in businesses. Talk to people in the area about it. If you come up with leads yourself that will help the police pick up your case.

If have a suspect in mind, name that person! Even if it's only a hunch, the police will check them out, your not condemning them, your giving your case a place to start and increasing the chances it will be picked up.

Try not to touch your car especially around the area where it was keyed, there may be prints. If the car has dew on it that's okay they print it when it dries. Remember the last time you had it washed and let the police know so they can say how old the prints they find may be.

As a detective in Florida, I can say these cases are tough and there is usually little evidence. These are some things I can do as an investigator:

Interview a possible suspect and ask to see his/her keys. I look for paint flakes matching your car color. I have caught a bunch of mall keyers that way.

    Print the car.

Make a cold call on a recorded line and use strategy to gain an admission.

But in the end, "sometimes you get the bear, sometimes the bear gets you". It sucks, but what if hail falls from the sky? How can you get justice in that case?

If you got nada, you can do two things:

Live with it best you can and know that aholes always get theirs. Try to make sure it doesn't happen again by parking elsewhere, getting a sensitive alarm, whatever....

    or

You can get revenge. Things to consider though with revenge.

Do you know for sure you have the right guy? Would you be upset if you retaliated against the wrong person? Then you are the bad guy.

Does your conscience allow you to do something like that?

Are you a lucky person normally and are certain you won't get caught?

Will this escalate things with the subject? Will they then do something worse to your car or you?

What will you get in the end? It won't unkey your car but maybe you will feel better.

Ican't advise you on the revenge part, that is a decision you have to make based on your personal morals and ethics.

    good luck

  8. Notify the pope of your incredible ability to know the purpose and identity of someone merely by seeing the damage.  No one else has that ability.  It is a miracle.

You have been the victim of vandalism.  You can notify the cops and they can investigate and if the actual evidenc supports what you already know, then can notify the DA and the DA can decide whether to prosecute.  Of course, you can also sue for damages, but those stupid courts are unlikely to accept your ability and will require you to prove your case with actual evidence.

  9. Key the other persons car

Park in the first spot, away from the red zone, so that the is room for the second car, and that second car will have to park inthe zone.

    Tell the police

Set up cameras and do the same thing again, same situation, and tape people that might do it then also.

  10. I have crappy neighbors too.  Two building share one entrance exit and the people next door PARK at the end of the drive causing pile ups.  There are 8 total apartments that access that drive.

My husband is a great big bully with great big gorilla fists (hes big) and he scares the heck outta them and makes them move their cars.  One night he told the neighbor "We are gonna have a mexican stand off and I got all the time in the world" he blocked the drive completely until the neighbor moved.  It was quite funny actually.

  11. Unless you have a witness or other real proof, there is nothing you can do. I would knock on their door and ask them if they know anything about it. That might make them realize that you know they did it.

  12. First:

    Did you see who?

    Second:

    Call cops. File Complaint.

  13. The best thing to do is to talk to the neighbors. Don't argue, dont get mad. Just talk to them to see how you can solve the problem.
