What can I do about this hideous shower floor... paint it? or what?

I bought a condo with a stained, discolored shower floor. We figured we could clean it up, but no. Not only is the floor discolored, but when we removed the plastic stuff the previous owner stuck around the edges, there is gross blackish grey mildew type marks around the edges that will not come off. Tried every product imaginable, I've come to the conclusion it can't be cleaned. So, I thought I could paint it, but internet research has discouraged me from this idea... it sounds like painting is extremely difficult, doesn't last long, and rarely works well. I don't have much money - I'm just a young person on an entry level salary, so I fear replacing it as that would require ripping out and replacing the tile on the walls too. Way too expensive. What in the heck can I do to make this shower look better? The edges are the worst part... I'm considering just globbing white caulk around the edges to cover it up and live with it, but I don't know. help :(

  1. Did you try "the Works" Toilet Bowl Cleaner yet? Its harsh and helps with alot of stains even if they aren't toilets.

What about oil based primer paint?  It really really sticks, I tried to wash out oil based primer from the paintbrush it permanently painted the tub and the drain. At least I didn't care it was a vacant house and the ugly pink tub came out in a couple weeks anyway but boy does it stick. It comes in White and being its a primer it should adhere better than paint anyway. Don't use water based paint or primer or then it will peel and look bad but try oil based primer for a cheap fix.
