There is a guy at work who keeps saying he's going to rape me, but whenever I try to tell someone they think I'm lying or being creepy and the guy smiles about it so people think it's a big joke. I talked to a friend of my uncle's who works for the sheriff's department and he said they can't do anything since this guy "hasn't done anything wrong"... This ****** makes me feel very worried and I'm convinced he's planning to rape me, isn't that illegal? What can I do?

  1. I would suggest getting a small electronic recorder and record any time he's around. With proof like that police and hopefully your boss would be more likely to do something. Threats are definitely illegal and he is breaking the law. Moreover, it's a clear case of sexual harassment. Perhaps you should consider speaking to a lawyer.

  2. If your employer does not believe you, then you really have no other choice but to change jobs.  I know this sounds like blaming the victim, but if a sheriff employee does not think there is enough to go on, then there isn't.

The laws of your state may be different than others.  So you might speak with an attorney or victim's hot-line for advise.

  3. Try to tape record this when he says it. I know the cops will tell you they can't do anything, but that's totally f****d up. It should at least be considered a terroristic threat. If you are really worried, ask to speak to a police commander, then call the district attornies office. Go up the chain of command, call the state police, your state bureau of investigation, and make so much noise that someone HAS to listen. Search the s*x offender registry and see if he is in it, or also if he is on probation or parole. Get his freedom revoked. MOST IMPORTANTLY, talk to your boss, as this DEFINITELY entails sexual harassment. You could sue this company. Contact a lawyer to do this. If you have proof, like recording a sound byte of him saying this, they will likely fire him to prevent getting sued. Also, if they fire you instead, sue the s**t out of them. You shouldn't have to tolerate this, and the only reason the police won't do anything is because THEY ARE LAZY. A crime has been committed. Don't be a victim.
