What can I do about towed unregistered parked vehicle?

My car's registered out of state; got towed in NJ while parked because the registration is expired. What can I do?

Go get it out, and then have it registered.

In all probability, you will not be able to get the car released from the tow yard until you get the registration updated and pay all the costs. Everyday you leave it in the yard, the cost goes up.
