What can I do around Town Lake?

I want to join the rowing team at the Texas Rowing Center but practice starts at 4:45. I need somewhere to hang out and just do homework or something until practice starts. My mom doesn't want me to walk that far away from the rowing dock or on any busy streets. Please help me think of somewhere to go. The address of the rowing dock is 1541 W Cesar Chavez St, Austin, TX 78703.

well... there is a place were people walk around the lake and there are benches. you could grab a bench and look at the water and do your homework... or you could bring a blanket and sit on the ground and do the same thing.. =]

Probably the only things within walking distance without crossing any major roads are Austin High School that is right there, and the animal shelter.  I would probably do what the first person suggests, which is just bring a blanket and camp out and do your homework there.
