Question:

What can I do for entertainment on my flight today?

I have a flight today at 4, and I'm worried that I'll be bored out of my mind on the plane. It will only be 5 hours long, but I'm still concerned. These are the things I've thought of so far:

MP3 Player (Check)

Game System (Check)

Dvd player (Don't have one)

Books (Check)

What else should I do?

  1. go to http://www.seatguru.com and look up your seat.  You'll have to choose the airline your flying with and what plane your flying on then you should find some information about the snacks they'll serve and whether they have small tvs and will be showing a movie.  The things you've listed so far are good too.

  2. enjoy the entertainment avaible like the little screens. grab a bite to eat , exercise(ankle rolss and ups.) or you could sleep.

  3. Shrooms....i dont even need to explain

  4. You could read a book, throw bits of wet paper at the person in front of you, take a small beeping calculator and press a button every now-and-again, say "oops, wrong wire," start a food fight, dance for your own amusment and the amusment of others, host a birthday party, fake-vomit into a bag, claim that there are gremlins on the wing, go to sleep and draw fake eyes on your eyelids, sneeze a lot, take a bag of (yes bag) of milk onboard... The list goes on.

Oh, and don't forget not to use your gamesystem or mp3 player during take-off.

  5. Read a good book, look out the window, magazines are fun. get a big book of travel games, idk  if you have a laptop!

  6. It's a shame you don't have a DVD player.  Those really help the flight go by.  On a 5 hour flight, I watch 2 movies and then just read or look out the window the rest of the time.

But since you don't, load up some podcasts of some interesting radio shows on the MP3 player.  Maybe an audiobook.  Listening to music just doesn't cut it on a long airplane ride.  I need something that engages the mind.  An interesting radio show fills the bill.

Some interesting radio shows that are free to get from iTunes are:

Car Talk - a funny talk show about cars and other things

Clark Howard Show - great syndicated radio consumer advocate

Michael Medved - smartest conservative talk show out there.  not sure if he's on iTunes though.

  7. I have seen all the alternatives on the plane. It depends on the person and personalities. I also have seen people with downloaded articles on the laptop and catchup on the readings. The list of these items are more important these days since flights are delayed, thus you spend more time in the waiting line than the usual one hour before departure. Also, some airlines are cutting off what snacks etc. they will provide on the flight, so you may want to think about some munchies.

You are not allowed but a few ounces of liquids(drinks), so you may purchase your favorite drink from the inside shops and keep it with you. During an unexpected long delay, I learnt my lesson. I was so thirsty, I bought a water bottle from an inside shop, finished it and still was thirsty but did not buy another (those days when gas was not in the news, water was more expensive than gas by volume). I kept refilling the bottle at the water fountain - I now carry an empty bottle with me.

I usually finish all the chores etc. on previous day/night, so am very tired and did not sleep enough. So, I try to catch up on my sleep on the plain, in between I look outside the windows and enjoy the clouds.

    Have a nice trip.

  8. i like to bring crossword books onto planes.  sometimes flights show movies, too.  or you could just catch up on some sleep
