What can I do if my wallet was stolen, returned but without the money?

I went to a 11:15 movie showing and lost my wallet on the seats. When I went back to find my wallet the next day, it was returned but without the cash inside. There was 500 dollars inside that had be stolen and replaced with a penny. The manager said that it was handed in by the cleaning crew. The thing is thou, they said that no one entered the theatre after that movie got out. The only people who could have found the wallet to take the money out was the cleaning crew (who returned it empty). Is there any chance of getting my money back, or atleast getting to the bottom of who took it? What should I do?

  1. First things first. Don't touch the penny and have it dusted for prints.

Shane - A lot of people carry that and more.

  2. Even if you maybe find the cleaner who maybe stole your money, it's going to be pretty hard to prove you actually had $500.  I mean, who's to say you didn't just have $20 in there.  Next time, don't carry so much cash.

  3. Its really great loss for you to lost 500$,

but i think its life, and you have got lesson from it.

Don't be sad, just cheer up and do care next time.

You should think like, Life is more important then Money.

Thanks to God, that you only Loss money not any other damage occurs to you. Take Care and have nice time

  4. Count yourself lucky to have your ID and credit cards back. Don't ever carry more than $100 cash - what are you, in the mafia? Who does that?

  5. come on, forget it. You don't have to get your money back. You lost 500? there will be 1000 coming to you.... If you believe so.

  6. I think you're out of luck...and who carries $500 around with them??

  7. It also could have been someone from the same movie showing that left after you did who found it

  8. Nothing because there is no way to prove how much money you had in your wallet.

  9. Hate to break it to you but you lost the money. There's not much anyone can really do. Then there's always the "we aren't responsible for your belongings" policy c**p.

  10. Nothing you can do.  Prove it.  Your word against theirs, and they were nice enough to give the wallet back.

  11. CAN'T DO MUCH. BUT I WOULD SUGGEST THAT YOU ARE FOOLISH FOR CARRYING THAT MUCH CASH WITH YOU. YOU COULD, HOWEVER , ASK THE MANAGER IF YOU COULD SPEAK TO THE CLEANING CREW. EVENTUALLY THE FINDER IS GOING TO LET IT SLIP OUT.

  12. You can call the police and file a complaint, and maybe even talk to the manager at the movie theatre, but because it was cash, there is no way to prove it. You cant prove you had that amount of money in your wallet, so basically your screwed. Sorry

  13. Be thankful you got it back and learn to be more careful.

It may be wise not to cary so much cash too.

  14. Notify the police. But don't hold your breath for finding the culprit.

  15. chock it off as a $499.99 lesson learned.  otherwise it will happen again and you will not be happy the second time.  trust me, i know of which i speak.

the only thing i can offer is to try the police and maybe they could lift a finger print from the penny or wallet, but they usually only give you lip service.

keep your money in a clip and keep it in a secret pocket or in the front of your pants.

  16. let this be a lesson to you dont carry money in your wallet keep the money in the front pocket and cards and stuff in the wallet. oh and your screwed
