What can I do in Frankfurt, Germany if I only had 16 hours?

I will be laying over at Frankfurt for 16 hours and I do not want to sit at the airport. I will be arriving at 9pm and leaving the next day around 3pm. What is the best way to get around and what is good to see? Travel guides are not helping, for someone's personal advice is better.

  1. I would check out the bars in the Sachsenhausen district across the Main river from the city center that night if you are not traveling alone, and go to the Romer plaza in the city center and check out the old building and roman ruins the following day before going back to the airport. You can get around with public transportation if you are familiar with it or hire a taxi.

  2. Don't try to find the Dorian Gray as suggested by GoBobbyRocks!

It has been closed for years now.

The evening in a Bar at the Eschenheimer Turm, called "Das fuenfte Element' (futuristic)

Later, on to Sachsenhausen for some beer or Ebbelwein (apple wine)

Next day, Sightseeing by bus or taxi, or a visit to the botanical garden, the Palmengarten

  3. Red light district! Use cabs.

  4. Go to mannheim and do some shopping!

  5. On top of all the suggestions, may I ask if you booked yourself a hotel room for the overnight stay? If not, I strongly urge you to do so, either near the airport (a hotel with a shuttle) or in town.

  6. At the airport there is a dance club called the Dorian Gray, but dont dress too casually or you might not get in. There is a train station at the airport Frankfurt has many music spots and resturaunts.

    Lots of great ideas here:
