What can I do in Nice, France, on a Monday?

I'm planning a free & easy trip where I'll be leaving Paris for Nice on Sunday. But read that on Mondays all the markets and stores are closed in Nice. If I keep to the original plan of taking the TGV from Paris in the morning and arriving Nice on Sunday afternoon, what can I do in Nice upon arrival and on Monday? Or should I spend Sunday in Paris and use Monday for the Paris-Nice travel time?

Original plan was to spend 2 nights in Nice - on the day of arrival, visit the Promenade des Anglais and Place Massena. The next day, go to the Castle Hill (Colline du Chateau) and walk around Nice Old Town (Vieille Ville). Shop along Avenue Jean Medec and probably re-visit Promenade des Anglais in the evening. Next morning leave Nice for Milan.

Found an overnight Paris-Nice train schedule on www.voyages-sncf.com - is there a room to sleep in or we'll be sleeping on our seats?

Also, when doing searches on www.voyages-sncf.com, it returns results showing TGV and iDTGV. What's the difference between these 2?

  1. BEACH!

and it won't be as busy, most people will be at work

  2. Well,. you can definitelyy go to the beach, that would not be as overcrowded as usual...or, you can visit the nearbies, maybe a little run to Saint-Tropez if you have enough time (1 hour and a half from Nice to Saint Tropez)...I mean, the markets and stores are not the important thing in Nice! Good luck!

  3. DO visit the old town! it is so beautiful and colourful!

on Cours Saleya, there is a flower market everyday, and you can enjoy a drink on a sunny terrace.... Go taste "Socca", a thick pancake made with chickpea flour at "René Socca", it is the best in town.

  4. Try a trip to Eze, a medieval village about 45 minutes from Nice along the coast towards Monaco. The view is fantastic and at the very top is a cactus garden. Wonderful place!

The best bet is to take a bus because it will drop you off next to the town. You can take a train but the climb up the rocky path to the top is a killer.
