  1. Steal cars like everyone else

  2. There are SO many fantastic places to visit in and around Leeds - the Tourist Info Office at Leeds City Railway Station has masses of leaflets as do all the libraries. Look out for the following:

Kirkstall Abbey (the Shakespeare Festival will be staged there in the open air July/August - I defy anyone not to enjoy it - even those who have a deep hatred from school days!). Across the road, the Abbey House Folk Museum with its reconstruction of a Victorian street complete with shops. It's quite a fun place, with its museum of childhood and the old penny-in-the slot machines (What the Butler Saw, Fortune Telling, Music, etc.).

    The Royal Armouries

    Thackray Medical Museum

    Armley Mills

    Temple Newsham

    Lotherton Hall

    Harewood House

Roundhay Park, Canal Gardens & Tropical World

Venture a couple of miles further and discover Harrogate (go to the Turkish Baths there, if only to see the amazing building from the inside); Ripley (a little gem of a place, castle, church, beautiful walks throughout the Ripley estate, Ripley Ice Cream parlour); picturesque Knaresborough (take a rowing boat out on the river or visit Mother Shipton's Petrifying Well); another few miles you have Ilkley & Otley (brilliant walks and nice, busy little towns with markets), Skipton.

In other directions you have Salts Mill in Saltaire (David Hockney permanent art collection and theatre sets, plus various floors of interesting things); York - so much of interest ..... etc., etc., etc.

All the museums and stately homes have nice cafes and usually beautiful grounds/bird gardens to stroll around or have a picnic in.

Re courses, all the colleges and community centres offer what amounts to a mass of every kind of evening class, from jewellery making, music, languages, belly dancing, excercise, DIY, furniture, hobbies, genealogy, local history, etc., but probably not during the summer holiday period. Look also on the Leeds City Council website for info and news of forthcoming events, Farmer's Markets, Fairs, etc.

Leeds is about so much more than cinemas and shopping. Do a little homework, ask the locals, and I'm sure you'll find lots of things and brilliant places to keep you and your friends occupied.

  3. Go to the Tourist information Office. There's loads of interesting stuff near to Leeds to go and check out. It has tons of history and lots of national parks and things. failing that, go hang at the airport for an afternoon, plane spotting.

  4. what about going to places like parks and places like tmple newsem and harewood house. also try neumiller d**n, thats really good to go for a walk with your freinds. try these. but i  think you can never beat shopping especially in leeds town. i love the victoria quater. aaahhh...harvey nichols, louis vuitton store.

  5. Here are a few things that you could easily get to from the Leeds area.

    1.                   Skipton – In the Aire gap separating the Craven limestone Dales to the north, the gritstone moors to the south, and the pastoral Ribble valley to the west, Skipton is an attractive market town serving a large rural area.  Bus info. X84 from the bus station.

    2.                   Bolton Abby – Bolton Abbey is in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales on the banks of the River Wharfe. With just under 30,000 acres of beautiful countryside, over 80 miles of footpaths and ample space to run around and enjoy the fresh air, there is something for all ages.  Bus info. X84 from the bus station.

    3.                   The Armories – Can walk here from down town Leeds.

    4.                   Five Rise Locks – Bingley Five-rise lock staircase is the most spectacular feature of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. It is situated about half a mile north of Bingley Station, about 17 miles north west of Leeds and about 12 miles south east of Skipton.  Trains leave every thirty minutes from Leeds.

    5.                   Temple Newsam – This charming estate sits on 1200 acres of scenic parkland and houses one the country's finest collections of decorative arts. The exhibit of Chippendale furniture is both impressive and extensive. This is also the site of one Europe's largest home farms, boasting 400 animals, including numerous rare specimens.  Bus info. 63A from either the bus station or City Square.

    6.                   Otley – Otley is a Yorkshire market town of about 15,000 people, set on the banks of the River Wharfe. It is an ancient, friendly and picturesque town with a rich commercial and community life. Bus info. 731 from the bus station.

    7.                   York – The north’s spiritual capital for over 2,000, York is central to Britain’s colourful history.  Visit the stunning York Minster, enjoy Stonegate and Shambles shopping and live the York history at the JORVIK Viking centre, National Railway Museum and York Castle Museum.  Eat at the Kings Arms Pub right on the river Ouse, one of the most flooded buildings in England.  Trains run all the time.

And this is just scratching the surface…..
