Question:

What can I do to become a starter in volleyball? (Also some other volleyball questions included)?

I'm a substitute in volleyball, and I want to become a starter in the team. The starters bump the ball hard and can control their bumps too. Their serves are also long and deep. I can serve a little higher (about maybe 5 cm?) , at least enough time for the team to react. I mostly serve straight. My serves are shallow... -___-" Well, my bumps are mostly "power" bumps that hit the ceiling most of the time. I want to be able to hit the balls hard, get it over, but able to control the bump. Also...

Should I be staying in my territory, or moving to others' territory. , because my coaches tell me to move, and usually I'm in the front... Or back...

HELP?

  1. get a vollyball

    google it

practice .. somewhere ... (don't drop the clothes that your mom hanged to dry)

    participate in a team ..

    enjoy it

  2. Sounds like you know your stuff, and are pretty good. I don't think you need to do anything on serving... you might just need to wait for the right time to "bump" your starters off (just kidding).

Keep working hard with the team, and see whether there is a specific position that you can do better there than other players on the team.

As you mentioned "move", yes you should constantly move to the best spot when receiving, and try to expand your coverage. When your teammates are hitting, you should get ready to pick up blocked shots. When you are in back row, you are supposed to be able to cover from corner to corner (which I do when I stay in center back-deep). Anticipation comes from game experience, foot work would get your to the good pass. When you can dig up most of your opponents' hits that fall into "your" territory, you (who else) will guarantee yourself a starting job.

  3. what i had to do is lift weights. that got my arms stronger. i can do a floater serve or a regular serve. to get better bumps, dont swing your arms. my coaches yelled at me for doing that and i had to keep practicing. i hope you get better. volleyball is such a great sport. i have been playing for about 5 years now and i play on a select team fot 12U.  well i hope you try these and get better!

  5. You need to focus on your basics before anything.  When bumping the ball, make sure your hitting it with your forearm, and your not swinging into the ball.  It's most peoples instinct to step in and swing, when it's easier to place the ball when you let it hit you and you "pass it".  And sometimes serves aren't about being shallow or deep, but about the ability to place it.  Work on spotting your serve, and getting it to go where you want, even if it is a short serve.

Take the ball that is yours.  Cover the ground that is yours.  If someone is stepping up to block, make sure you cover the ground behind them on the line if you are to do so.  Make sure you understand what your responsibility is at your position at all times.

    good luck!!

  6. you probably know all this, but you need to use your knees for power to bump, rather than you're arms. Wherever you turn your arm is where the ball will go, as long as you hit it with your arms, not to high or low on your arms.  For serving, I can't help a ton because I don't know it you overhand or underhand. But for overhanding, make sure you don't toss the ball to high and concentrate. Practice, Practice, Practice

  7. go outside and find a wall and just serve so many times that your arm feels like its about to fall off. that's what i had to do and my serves are great you have to keep practicing and trying to look at yourself and say "am i doing this right?" if you ask for help with your coaches they'll see that you're dedicated to the sport and want to give it your all. you have to just basically work on things and you have a lot of things to work on by what you're saying maybe you won't improve on all of that just this year a lot of these take time that you have to constantly practice and work on. for now just get your skills together and what you're doing and then worry about starting.

  8. u shoudl try goin to open areas and practicing i think itll help alot...=]

  9. I just started to play volley ball too. All you can really do is practice a lot
