I am a 10th grader and this is my last chance to play JV basketball. I really want to make the team. Any advice?

  1. Practice shooting and dribbling. Make sure you can do basic dribbling moves such as between the legs, behind the back, etc.

    Cheers!

  2. practice every day

in tryouts do everything 110% and volunteer for everything that the coach wants and you will make the team

    look up some drills online

  3. Practice and then practice some more...run your butt off...jump rope a lot...run the bleechers...then practice some more...play everytime you get a chance and with people better than you are, but play to win even though they are better.

    Good Lock!!!

  4. That depends on if you can play basketball and how good the other players are. Where I went, we had school linked (not official) summer league teams that everyone on teams from about the 8th grade on participated in. This gave the coaches a lot of insight as to who could do what, so the teams were basically put together unless someone by chance came along.

If you have been close before, just make sure that you are in playing shape and practice any skills that directly go with your position. I would suggest getting into really good shape; you can spend 4-5 days a week on a court for about an hour each time.

After running for about 5 minutes and stretching, you can spend the first part running full court lay-ups. If you do 5 sets of 10, it will help a lot with fatigue. What to do is start at one end and sprint while dribbling to the other end and shoot a lay-up, taking the rebound and going back to the other basket until you have shot 10. You then slow down the pace by shooting 10 free throws and then again another 10. What I used to do was do one set right hand, then one set left hand, then right hand reverse, left hand reverse, and ended with teardrop lay ins. This will also help you with concentration shooting free throws when fatigued; make sure to use good form on the free throws.

Now spend 15-20 minutes working on shooting, dribbling, and moves. You can then end with your own 3 point shooting exercise using only one ball and getting your own rebounds, shoot 5 shots from 5 spots on the floor.

This should take just over an hour and if you work on it, you should actually notice less fatigue and better shooting after the first few weeks. Try to keep track of the free throws and 3 point shooting so that you can know if you are improving. Depending on your current skill, if you do not see some consistency, have someone work with you on your form.

I know that this was very long, but I hope it helps.
