We live like 1.5 miles from the rr tracks. My son is 3 and he gets waken up by them every night. Each time one goes by. It didnt bother him at first but now, hes up at 12, 2, and between 4 and 5 b/c they are running. I need a solution to keep him in bed! I need sleep :)

  1. They make alarm clocks that play soothing sounds that put you right to sleep.  You can find them in Walmart.  Maybe you should try turning on one of those at night to distract him from the loud noise.

  2. he should be used to it after a while. he may have another problem which a doc might figure out. we live 6 feet from the tracks and on a crossing as we never wake up when the train blasts it's horn as it goes by our house. yes, the whole place shakes but we never wake up. you could take him around trains as a parent son outing and maybe he'll get used to it eventually. 1.5 miles away for you is quite a way, it really shouldn't be that noisy. here comes one now.

  3. MOVE

  4. Try one of those ambient noise machines.  Have you thought about moving him to another room?  He may get used to the noise after a few more restless nights.  One off the wall suggestion is contacting your city council about making "quiet zones."  That is a crossing protected by gates and lights where trains cannot sound their horn.  I have personally been over one in the Ft. Worth, Tx area.  I know there are a lot of them in California.  If enough of your neighbors complain, then maybe one can be established.  Other than that, I hope you and your son find the peace and quiet you need.
