What can I do to conserve and help the environment?

I've been watching the Planet Earth series on the Discovery Channel and I really want to help preserve what I saw. I know about global warming, but it has always been at the back of my mind and I never really thought about it. I always thought "well, what can I do about it?" but i really want to do whatever i can.

Sell your car, house and anything else you own, move into the woods and live like an animal. If you don't then you are doing things that will murder the environment and bring peril to all mankind, fishkind, animalkind, treekind, plantkind, insectkind, amoebakind, bacteriakind, and most importantly, the children.

THERE IS NO OTHER WAY!

to conserve energy:  adjust power settings on your computer; buy a few Energy Saver light bulbs

to conserve water:  I've heard one idea that you take a 20oz or 1liter. bottle and fill it with sand and stick it in your toilet tank then you will save a lot of water over time.  Just make sure that your toilet can still flush very easily and has enough water to take everything that goes into it.......otherwise...
