I just need some ideas as to what I can do to help save money on the food. I would like to take a lunch to work and just eat it there on my lunch break, but honestly, I have no idea where to begin. Subway is just next door at both my jobs so when I have lunch and dinner, its pretty much subway. But I get like 4 subs a day from them and well its burning a whole in my pocket. I need some ideas as to what to do. Thanks for your help?

  1. Shop at the 99 Cent store! by yourself a sandwich and some chips mabey a candy bar. And bring it to work. Its cheap! try it.

    ~Just keepin it reall

  2. buy cold cuts at a grocery store make your own subs, buy a salad, tuna sandwich  etc.  chips ,soft drink  u name it

  3. u could start bringing and making your own food at home then bring it to work make sure you can a budget on how much you want to spend in one week besides it's a lot more cheaper making your own food then dining out

  4. go 2 mcdonald's. they are pretty cheap...obviously...but it you dont wanna get fat, i suggest you dont. find another way

  5. does it have to be sandwiches?

if not, the best and cheapest way is to make big batches of things you enjoy and portion it out for your meals for home/work.

Pasta is a great one! very inexpensive and full of energy producing carbs to keep you going.

Instant Mashed potatoes are real cheap, Add ground beef and some vegetable that you like cook it all together in the oven and portion it out, you can eat that for a coupe days.

Mix it up, too. Spend a day or even a couple of hours and make a few large batches of things and portion it all out(you can freeze what you wont need or eat for a couple days as well)

I have a couple good recipes if you are interested, I had the same problem. Now im saving money and eating a bigger variety of food that I like instead of food that is convenient

  6. if you like sandwhiches so much, go to the store and buy the ingrediants for a make-your-own sandwhich. chances are, it will be cheaper than subway.

  7. Subs from Subway everyday would cause a Subway burnout in me not to mention burning a hole in my wallet.  For health reasons, you need variety in your diet and you should be visiting the grocery store to get the most for your money in the way of food.  And try to buy what is on sale to save money.  Check out some recipes on line of some things you like and just buy those ingredients at first.  You can create a meal, (meat and vegetables) and then freeze what you have left over for another day that week or for 2 or 3 weeks later. That is the cheapest and best way to do it if you are single. Some of the cheapest best buys in groceries would be a large bag of potatoes (they keep well in the frig.), dried beans, canned tuna fish, peanut butter and jelly for sandwiches.  You would even come out ahead financially if you bought frozen TV dinners and frozen Pizza from the grocery.  Check those out.  There are a lot of options out there.  Good luck.

  8. Make sandwiches and take them to work. I like wraps made with Turkish or Lebanese bread; wholemeal bread is more filling and better for you.

    Salads in plastic containers.

Soup in a thermos, with buttered crusty bread rolls.

Make pies, quiches and flans and take cold slices with you to work.

Take leftovers from dinner and heat it in a microwave, if your workplace has one. I even like cold leftovers.

You can also add fresh or dried fruit, nuts and seeds as snacks. Or for an occasional treat, a little packet of potato crisps or a fun size chocolate bar.

  9. Well, what I do is I go grocery shopping once a month or two months, and I buy a whole lot. It costs me around $120.00. Try preparing your food the night before, or whenever you have time. Try to buy small snacks so that you can grab a few different ones and toss them in your lunch box, so you can just hurry off to work. It saves me a whole lot of time. And remember, a Subway 6 inch has more fat than a Big Mac! Yes, it's hard to believe, but scientifically, it's true. lol.

    Good luck.! :]

  10. Heres my advice..go to your local grocery store and buy the ingredients to make your OWN subs..much cheaper and you can get more sammiches out of them !!

  11. i buy really cheap fast food. taco bell has sells a gordita supreme for $0.99 (which is more like $1.17 with tax or so) mcdonalds has hamburgers for $1. if you go to dollar tree or dollar general you can buy some groceries there.

  12. eat at home, don't go out and eat. Eat less and save.
