  1. is that like when you pee and you get the chills?

  2. When did you have your last check up with your doctor? Go and get a check up right away don't just rely on the answers here.

  3. I feel you! I went through that for five months, thought I was losing my  mind. The medication of choice for "zaps" is Xanax... it really works. You'll have to see your doctor, but it's the only thing that works, and the accepted treatment.

Sometimes it doesn't matter how carefully you taper off. I followed instructions, then went even slower, and still had awful side effects. I had trouble speaking, and it felt like cymbals were clashing on my head. It depends on how sensitive you are to the medication.

  4. Are you lower your dosing as recommended by a doctor, or quitting on your own?  It's important to communicate with your doctor as you quit a medication, especially one that changes your brain.

Brain zaps are a pretty normal part of SSRI Discontinuation Syndrome, so you'll probably have to ride them out.

They remind me of anxiety attacks, so if you begin experiencing them constantly, try to counteract the sensation with relaxation techniques, such as smelling lavender or listening to relaxing music while taking a slow walk.

  5. You need to taper off of them slowly... like cut the mg dosage down every time you take it. You get brain shivers if you stop cold turkey. So even though you want to stop taking them, you have to do it that way so you won't get withdrawal effects.

  6. Talk to the doctor who is treating you, and get some medical advice, so you get the right advice.

    God bless!

  7. Right there with you!  I get 10-15 zaps a day.  I'm coming off of Effexor, doing it exactly as my dr prescribed.  It's just part of the withdrawals.  Some meds are harder to come off of than others.  Prozac is a piece of cake.  Hang in there!  You can do it!

  8. Tapering slowly. And a secret trick my brother learned while coming off Effexor was to take Benadryl (otc allergy medicine) NOT the daytime formula. Maybe you shouldn't take it in the day if it makes you sleepy, but in the evening when you get home. Just the normal dose. A nurse told him that and it did lessen his brain zaps. And he said when they did happen, it freaked him out less.

I had a couple once while trying Lexapro--not pleasant!!

It can't hurt to give it a try and good luck :)
