What can I do to fix the volume on my car stereo?

I have the standard-issue Delco stereo in my Pontiac Grand Am. If I attempt to turn the volume up, often it will go down. If I try to turn the volume down, often it will go up. Sometimes it will work fine, other times the volume will greatly increase or decrease. What can I do to fix it? I want to sell the vehicle without having to rip out the stereo and put a new one in.

  1. Easiest fix is to buy a new factory unit...Cheap on ebay.

  2. take it to a audio dealer and have them look at it if they cant fix it then have them install an aftermarket one. most places will install one really cheap if not for free when you buy one from them

  3. My mom had the same problem with the stereo on her Grand Am. I think the stereo has a problem with the volume k**b. My mom just decided to go to circuit city, got a 50 dollar cd player and installed it. Problem fixed. Look at this way, if you're going to sell the car the new stereo can be a plus for potential buyers.
