I am taking Femhrt for early menopause, without it I have horrible hot flashes and other side effects that are seriously interfering with my life. I live in NY, lost health insurance when my employer had some big layoff's. Still working part time and make $47 a month to much to qualify for state sponsored health insurance and still can barely make ends meet. I really don't want ot not take the rx, but at almost $90 I can't afford to buy the med. I've heard there are programs for people to get free meds but I don't know where to start. My doctor is trying to see if the rx company might give me some free samples but doesn't have any other ideas and not sure if they will do that. Help.

  1. Maybe you should think about getting a full-time job so you can take care of yourself.  There is a very limited availability of free medicine for those who are truly in need, and that means people who can't work because they are disabled, etc.

  2. Ask your doctor if a cheaper generic exists.

  3. Contact the drug manufacturer yourself. Sometimes they have programs for folks that are lower income to get reduced cost drugs.

I know the health department offers lower cost medical care. I don't know if they help with drugs. Can't hurt to call them. If they don't they may have a suggestion.

    Is a generic available?

Is there another drug that is cheaper and can help with the symptoms.

    Good Luck.

  4. You print out a list of the Target $4 prescriptions, and Sam's Club, and bring the list to your doc, to get a generic that does almost the same thing, for $4 a month.
