We were backing up going uphill backwards and the person driving did it by riding the clutch until we smelled an awful foul smell. I thought for a moment it would go on fire so we shut the car off for a moment thinking that if we let it cool. Then we finished going up and pulled off along the road to open al the doors to leet the odor out. Some of it went away. but it is still there. Has anyone got any suggestions? Also

Is it normal for a car to do this . We drove backwards uphill for about 50 meters and the incline about 9 degreees. Opinions please.

  1. I can't drive yet, but if you need to get rid of a smell, try Fe-breeze or another kind of spray. It might work!

  2. Roll the windows down and let it air out. Also try Febreez. It's not normal if the clutch is in good shape and the driver knows how to drive a stick. If the clutch is slipping, or if the driver is inexperienced, then you can expect that lovely scent every time you get in!

  3. First that person needs to learn how to drive a manual then try some febreeze.

  4. It will go away on it's own. Get an air freshener , that will help. Is the clutch slipping now ? You may need a new one if it is !
