I have a two year old, we went to the beach yesterday and despite my best efforts to keep him soaked in sunblock he STILL got burned on his back and face. He isn't acting like he is in a great deal of pain, just kind of uncomfortable. What can I do to help with the pain and heal the sunburn other than aloe? I appreciate any and all answers!

  1. Aloe and loads of it. I know you said other than aloe- but it is the best.

My best efforts failed my 10 year old and she burned like a roast. I never felt like such a crappy mom when that happened. But.. what can ya do?

I bought pure aloe and applied it every hour to cool her down and help heal.

When it was burning or hurting her we turned a large fan on high and had her sit facing away from it (her burn was on her back) and she said that relieved it the most.

I also got some shea butter and applied it in the morning and evening-it looked like that healed it the fastest, to me.

She took cool showers until it healed, too.

  2. Aloe is the best in helping soothe him. Straight from the plant is best, but if can not find that, you can get some near the lotion section at a store. Consider finding a higher spf sunblock. I personally need at least 60 spf and to reapply every 30-45 minutes.

Aside from aloe, you might be able to try Eucerin cream or aquaphor. I have used them both when I didn't have aloe around.

  3. I know that you've probably heard the aloe vera thing A LOT...believe me...but it really does help if you keep reapplying it. If you store it in the fridge, it will give him more of a relief when you first put it on.

Ice packs (in small amounts of time) and cold cloths or compresses will also help to minimize the length of time that he have redness and should help with the swelling.

Bathe him in lukewarm (room temperature) BATHS. Taking showers with too high of a water pressure could increase his pain. Taking a too-cold bath won't help, and will make him freezing. And a too-hot bath runs the risk of burning even more, or irritating the burn that he already have.

Make sure that you have him drink PLENTY of water, in order to keep his body hydrated so he don't develop a fever. If he does develop a fever, give him a children's acetaminophen or an ibuprofen to help get rid of the fever and to minimize inflammation and swelling.

If his sunburn is really bad and seems to be very painful (or seems to develop more pain), you may want to go see your doctor and get a prescriptive treatment.

  4. Growing up in a place where aloe was growing all over, I always found the best treatment for burn was aloe straight from the plant, not diluted. There's a reason the indians found it so good. I spent every day in the sun and it felt good putting on and continued soothing. I also would put it on cuts, rashes or even dried out skin and it was always the best.

  5. put lotion on it helps

  6. Get some pure aloe. It's in the sunblock aisle and is clear. It's natural and will help it heal.

  7. Aloe and ibuprofen if he gets sick. Other than that, just don't put him in itchy clothing. Sometimes if you scrub it really hard in the bath it peels the next day, but i wouldn't reccomend it for a two yr old because it hurts, and i only do it to myself for cosmetic reasons (:

  8. Cold milk apply it with a wash cloth.

  9. put aloe vera on his face and some on his back. mainly his face.

just keep putting lotion on his back continously. i suggest aloe vera lotion
