Ok, so I am a wimpy hitter. Is there any tips on making my swing faster? I have tried working out and the quarter trick but I repel muscles. I really need to increase my veritcal too so if anyone has anything for that, it would be amazing!

  1. I see that everyone has already given you alot of information so all i am going to say is to start JUMP ROPING and it will increase your vertical jump a TON and it will be 10 times easier to get the ball over in an aggressive way. When you get high up, all you have to do is hit the ball and SNAP your wrist so it shoots down.

  2. u need to develop sum confidence n ur hits and get power behind thm and dont worry at practice about thm going out of bounds once u get the power down u can work on snapping ur wrist..also doing quick jumps everyday will help ur vertical

  3. you have to first work on your foot work, if you are a right handed hitter you approach left right left and if you are a left handed hitter you approach right left right. that is the first step, then you work on hitting. to practice hitting without a net, you can get a ball and hit it against a wall making sure to try and hit the same spot on the wall everytime. Volleyball is a game that is played probably 70% in the head and 30% physically. I read somewhere that a person must serve a ball 400 time (same with passing) before they can begin to figure out what works for them.

  4. Faster arm swing comes from acceleration of the arm through the ball.  That's where the speed of the hit comes from, there are a lot of people that can swing really hard, but not get good hits off.  The key to hitting is going to be timing, and the key to that is your footwork.  Practice your approach without hits at the net (I personally like the 3 step, but use what you're comfortable with, I've seen a guy with 10).  Once you can start timing your approach that you can solidly contact the ball consistently, start increasing the speed of your swing, slowly, so that you always have control.

  5. SO AM I! OMG! um. I really cant spike either. You can start practicing underhand serving and them when you are really good at it you can do over hand and them start spiking. Spiking is hard and must be really tall. I am a shrimp lol.

  6. Correct approach (3-step, or 4, 5-step), arm swing up, jump behind the ball (not under), correct swing (bow-arrow, or other stuff your coach wants you to work on, such as quick middle hit), snap your wrist, follow thru... all those together with the help of vertical and muscles.

You don't always have to hit the ball fast, but you have to do it "smart". Mix your quick swing, power swing, soft hit, and tip would make it more difficult for your opponent to pick up the pass.

  7. SQUATS SQUATS. do those. and do the left right left approach, jump, and keep your wrist firm and your hand BIG! follow all the way through, and hit like you ar esmacking the person you hate's head to the ground.

  8. Always make sure to follow through with your swing. That is a major contributor to the speed and strength of your swing. Use your whole body when your jumping. swing your arms behind your body and follow all the way through to the sky when jumping. Follow through and timing are huge in Volleyball. To help your vertical, running skips on your toes, push off with your toes, always. Squat jumps help build the muscles in your legs. Squat to the ground(so butt almost touches ground) and jump up, pushing yourself off the ground completely. Don't use your hands, the mor you do the them the easier they will become.

    Good Luck!

  9. Do squats for your vertical. I am 5'1 so I am short. Do 20 reps of squats a day and your vertical can increse anywhere from 1-10 inches. Try the three step approach, step big with right foot and then two quick steps.( left, right) Hit the ball with the palm of your hand. If you are short stand farther from the net so it has time to drop so you can hit it at the best place. If you are tall, stand closer to the net because you need to hit it at a higher point. Try not to follow through, it  will make the ball go right into the net.  And lastly, practice all you can! Practice makes perfect.

Here are instructions for the squat:
