What can I do to help my neighbors who lost everything in a house fire?

Today, July 19th, 2008, I walked outside to find my neighbors house up in flames. Luckily, everyone got out safely, but their entire house is burnt to the ground. All their posessions were lost and I feel I need to do something for this family. Our families are very close and they are such great people. The wife is a teacher and the husband recently retired after going through some medical treatments. They have their son and his girlfriend living with them, so they need things to get them back up on there feet. If you can think of ANYTHING I can do to help them, it would be great.

P.S. I already went around helping my neighbor hand out flyers to raise money for the family.

1 more thing- I'm only 14

  1. You are an angel.

How about hosting a car wash?  All proceeds will then go to the unfortunate family.

Perhaps having your family cook them some meals will help,. too.  They are going through an awful time right now.

  2. ~~One idea is to as the newspaper to run a small story and ask for any donations the citizens can give to help them out. Usually a bank or Library will accept items or set up an account for monetary donations. Your doing a truly wonderful thing, and I.m sure you'll be amazed on how willing people are to help out. Just gotta be able to get the word out to many people at once.~~

  3. buy them a caravan

  4. What a great person you are. Losing all your possessions in a fire must be so heart breaking. They're very lucky to have you as a neighbour. Why not try freecycle to pick up bits and pieces to tie them through till they can buy new? Or put in an advert to the group members.

  5. Way to go!  I love the idea about freecycle.org!  I think it's wonderful that you are helping and concerned about your neighbors!!!

Car washes, bake sales are great ways to earn cash to help out.  Ask your local newspaper to run an article.  Ask an adult to help set up a legal fund at one of the local banks or to help you do so.  You'd have to take one of your neighbors with you so they could have access to the funds later....

  6. See if there is a freecycle.org in your area.  It is a web site that swaps things in your community for free.  Post the things you need and people will respond.

  7. Sounds to me you've done enough by seeking donation from the neighborhood.

You've done enough. Now it's time for son and girlfriend to get grown and get out on their own.

Pray that things will get better for them.

  8. When I lost everything in a fire, the things I wanted right away were, towels, washcloths, toothbrushes, toothpaste, clean underwear and a comb or brush. Just simple amenities. You have nothing, so anything that you would use on a daily basis would be helpful. Blankets, socks, shoes, clothes, etc.Good luck, finding things. Remember anything helps! I will pray for them.
