What can I do to help my son talk?

My son is fifteen months old, and he is having problems communicating with us. I have had his hearing checked and he hears just fine.

He can only say three words, MaMa, DaDa, and BuBu.

I wonder if he is having problems communicating because I just had another baby eleven weeks ago, but he likes his brother, he gives him kisses, tries to help feed him and change his diaper, and so on.

He gets really frustrated when he is trying to communicate and I can't figure out what he is trying to say to the point where he balls up his fists and screams until he turns red.

Please if anyone has any suggestions about what I could do please let me know, my house is becoming unmanageable with the way he is acting, and all I want to do is help him, because I feel as if he wants me to.

  1. My cousin-IL's baby didn't talk either until after she turned 2. She's 3 now and still has a limited vocabulary. (Her prob was a health issue) But to deal with this and help her to communicate, my cousin-IL took her to a type of speech therapist that taught her baby sign language. It was a life saver for all of us. She could finally tell us what she wanted! Her mom had to teach each of us some basic sign so that we could know what she was signing... but once she picked it up... she didn't cry for much of anything anymore. Really it's just basic sign for things like "potty", "eat", "drink" etc. And while they taught her this they began real speech therapy with her until she was talking well enough to pretty much drop the baby sign. I would suggest asking your pediatrician about it and possibly doing some research of your own on the web about it. Depending on your insurance... I don't know if it would be therapy that would be covered or not... but it would be worth checking into.

Here are a couple of web sites to check out....

    Good luck and God Bless!
