I am currently taking diflucican (oral yeast medication) and my 2 week old baby is on Nysistat (the oral liquid for yeast)..but what can I do for the PAIN!? It hurts SO bad like someone has a hot knife and is stabbing my breast and then giving me a nipple twister at the same time! I am on day two of medication, how long before this starts getting better?

Any ideas about what I can do to help with the pain, especially when she nurses?

  1. gentian violet is what i used! it's an old school remedy that my great-grandmother told me about. i mastitis and the baby had thrush, cleared it right up in three days! it's horrible and violet...i mean PURPLE! your nipples will be purple, the babies mouth is horrible purple, definatly do it when you have no where to go and no company coming. it looks awful but it does the trick! i am a pediatric nurse practitioner, and i tell ppl that are willing to try it about it alot. good luck!

  2. I had a yeast infection on my b*****s too! It hurt so bad!

The doctor gave nystatin to me and my baby, I am assuming nysistat is the same stuff. after every feeding  rub the nysistat on your nipples and let it dry before you put your bra back on. Obviously it wont hurt the baby and you can actually put it on as many times as you need..

Within a day of doing that The pain lessened a ton!

also I noticed that if I put the Nysistat in the fridge the coolness seemed to help too.

  3. it should clear up very soon. My friend had this and it hurt her like heck and her nipples were so swollen. Probably by tomorrow evening the pain should have lessened or be gone.

Bless you for still sticking to it. The best wishes and love

  4. Get some Grapefruit Seed Extract!!  :)  It's a miracle worker.  Nystatin is sugary, so yeast feeds on it; this is the reason Nystatin's failure rate is over 50%!  I battled nipple thrush that went into my ducts last fall, so I feel your pain honey!! :(

Here's the link I found that spurred me to buy GSE.

**I used the liquid rather than pills since it's so versatile.  I'd dilute it in water and swab my nipples and my daughter's mouth.  I'd drink some in a small glass of orange or cranberry juice once a day too.  It'll help!!  Promise.

*Also, when I tried Diflucan it helped but gave my daughter a full body rash.  :(  I'd rather use natural cures anyway.
