Ok i had volleyball tryouts today. I haven't played since fall so I think I did really bad except for setting and serving. I practice my approach for spiking all the time and when I spiked this time I only hit it good once. The last time I played I was really good at it. What can I do to practice other than go to a court I can't use a wall or go outside it's too cold.

  1. Yes, I find that reading can help me, but IDK it may not help others.  I am a visual learner, so it helps if I read and look at volleyball action images.  You can also look up videos of volleyball games, serves, and other moves; I found out that this helps me mentally.  Also, there are some simple practices, like laying on your back and tossing the ball up and in front of you as if you were setting it.

  2. Play more real games plus more team practice.

  3. im 5'4 and im an outside hitter, so god knows i have to get up! thought im short for a front row player, i am one of the best hitters at my school and club team. i also am a starter and play all the way around. when i practice my approach, i do it in front of a mirror, that way i can see myself. it's left..rightleft. its like 1...1.2 the last two steps should be quick. remember to jump up NOT forward but straight up. also i remember that my coach used to tape us doing our approaches. why dont you try that. have like your mom or something tape you, then watch the tape and maybe go on youtube and find a professional doing it, then compare the two and see what you can improve. for me its remembering to follow through with my swing. ** if your having trouble getting the ball over... you need to get your elbow up (at your ear). ** if your having trouble keeping the ball in, remember to snap your wrist and follow through.( your arm should touch the side of your thigh)  i know you said you cant go outside but one time our coach had us throw footballs to work on our wrists. OR if ur at the gym warm up by hitting into the ground and have it bounce back into the wall. i do that alot! when i first started i was OKAY. but now i've improved soo much, i can even hit better than half the varsity team. (i was on frosh soph this season cuz im a freshman!) :] good luck! hope i helped

  4. i understand completely!!!! reading will help some but practice helps a lot. If u can try to find a place were you can practice...like a rec center or something... it should help a lot. It also helps if u have someone to practice with like a friend that's interested in volleyball too.

    hope u make the team!
