What can I do to jumpstart my xc?

I'm 13 and I started running about 6 months ago. I ran 3 times a week for two miles, and saw minimal results. I stayed the same weight, and saw no change in definition in my legs.

Recently I started training more significantly, running about 5-6 days a week with miles per run ranging from 3-7. I am now seeing quite significant results in my legs concerning toning, but my weight stays the same.

I eat healthily, and am not overweight, my bmi being 20.7. However, I want to lose weight for health reasons, and to give my cross country running a kick start, as lighter runners usually have the advantage over larger in long distances.

What can I do to help lose fat above what I'm already doing? Thanks!

  1. Keep running during the summer.

Get a group of people together and train together during the summer.

Find and train for a triathlon this summer.

Find and train for a couple of 5k's this summer.

    Just some ideas.

  2. I'm glad you increased your mileage a little bit, because 2 miles 3x/ week wouldn't cut it for xc. if you keep up the consistent training at the level you are now at, you'll eventually lose weight.

what you want to be careful of is that you do not try to cut the amount of food you eat by a lot, since you are training more. just try to eat wiser foods. also, consider decreasing (but not eliminating) your meat and dairy intake, and nearly eliminate unhealthy/salty/sweet snacks ( like chips, candy, etc). you dont need those as much.
